The 42nd season for the St. Louis Blues began with the firing of head coach Andy Murray in early January and brought up David Payne, the head coach of the Blues Farm team the Peoria Rivermen of the AHL who will serve on an interim basis. The Blues also hired Tyler Love as a goaltending consultant.
In the offseason, the team acquired a number of free agents to include Ty Conklin, Derek Armstrong and Darryl Sydor to name but a few. The team did resign Center Jay McClement to a 3-year $4.35 million contract.
The team is currently sitting in 4th place with a 24-22-9 record in the Central division of the Western Conference.
Many fans in St. Louis already hope to forget the Blues' 2005-2006 season before the year is even finished. While the St. Louis Blues have been an established presence in the postseason, this year's team ranks last in the National Hockey League for points scored, and head coach Mike Kitchen appears to face the team's first absence from the playoffs in 25 years. The team's ownership recently changed, and captain Dallas Drake hopes to finish the season on a somewhat positive note. However, this season's future does not look bright for the Blues. St. Louis Blues hockey tickets are easy to find with a little research.
